Visual Field Testing (HVFA/VFA)

Visual Field Testing (HVFA/VFA) evaluates central and peripheral vision to detect, monitor, and assess visual field loss, supporting glaucoma care, optic nerve evaluation, and low-vision rehabilitation.

Overview

Visual Field Testing, also known as Humphrey Visual Field Analysis (HVFA) or Visual Field Analysis (VFA), evaluates how well each eye detects light stimuli across different areas of the visual field. Automated perimetry can provide standardized and reproducible measurements of visual field sensitivity.

The test is especially valuable for detecting and monitoring glaucoma-related field loss, optic nerve disorders, and other conditions affecting peripheral or central vision. In low-vision assessment, visual field results help determine the amount of remaining functional vision and support appropriate rehabilitation planning.

Procedures Offered

The patient is comfortably seated in front of the visual field analyzer.
One eye is tested at a time while the other eye is covered.
The patient focuses on a central fixation target.
Small light stimuli are presented at different locations.
The patient presses a response button whenever a light stimulus is seen.
The machine records the patient's responses and generates a visual field report.
The ophthalmologist reviews the results alongside other clinical findings.
