Overview
Phacoemulsification, commonly called Phaco Cataract Surgery, is an advanced cataract treatment performed through a very small incision. The cloudy lens is gently broken into tiny pieces using ultrasonic energy and removed from the eye. It is then replaced with a clear artificial intraocular lens (IOL).
The procedure is generally performed under local or topical anesthesia and usually takes a short time. With proper evaluation and postoperative care, most patients can experience significant improvement in vision and return to their normal activities relatively quickly.
