Keratoplasty Surgery

Keratoplasty replaces diseased corneal tissue with healthy donor tissue to restore vision in conditions like keratoconus, scarring, and Fuchs' dystrophy. Our center offers advanced lamellar and full-thickness techniques for precise graft placement, reduced rejection risk, and faster visual recovery.

Overview

Keratoplasty is a highly specialized microsurgical procedure designed to restore vision by replacing a diseased or scarred cornea with healthy donor corneal tissue. The cornea is the clear, dome-shaped surface at the front of the eye responsible for focusing light; when it becomes clouded, distorted, or swollen, vision deteriorates significantly.

At our facility, we perform the full spectrum of corneal transplant surgeries, ranging from traditional Penetrating Keratoplasty (PKP)—which replaces the full thickness of the cornea—to modern Lamellar Keratoplasty techniques. These include DALK (Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty) for anterior corneal diseases and DSEK/DMEK (Endothelial keratoplasty) for conditions affecting the innermost corneal layer, such as Fuchs' dystrophy.

Our surgical approach prioritizes custom graft sizing, sutureless options where possible, and meticulous post-operative management to reduce astigmatism and speed up visual rehabilitation. We combine state-of-the-art operating microscopes with advanced corneal imaging to achieve the best possible anatomical and visual outcomes.
