Eye Pressure / NCT / Tonometry

Eye Pressure testing, including Non-Contact Tonometry (NCT) and Tonometry, measures the pressure inside the eye. It is an important screening and diagnostic test for glaucoma and other conditions that may affect the optic nerve and vision.

Overview

Eye Pressure / NCT / Tonometry is a quick and commonly performed eye examination used to measure intraocular pressure (IOP). Elevated eye pressure can be associated with glaucoma, a condition that can gradually damage the optic nerve and cause permanent vision loss if left untreated.

Non-Contact Tonometry (NCT) uses a gentle puff of air to estimate eye pressure without directly touching the eye. Other tonometry methods may use a specialized instrument to obtain a more precise pressure measurement. The test is quick, generally painless, and can be performed as part of a routine eye examination or glaucoma assessment.

Procedures Offered

The patient is seated comfortably in front of the tonometry device.
The eyes are positioned and focused according to the instrument's requirements.
For NCT, a brief puff of air is directed toward the eye.
The device measures the eye's response and estimates intraocular pressure.
Results are recorded and interpreted by the eye-care professional.
Additional eye examinations may be recommended when necessary.
