Color Fundus Photography (CFP)

Color Fundus Photography captures detailed images of the retina to detect, document, and monitor retinal conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular disorders, and other abnormalities, supporting accurate diagnosis and effective eye care.

Overview

Color Fundus Photography uses a specialized fundus camera to capture high-quality images of the retina, optic disc, macula, and retinal blood vessels. These images provide a permanent visual record that can be reviewed and compared during follow-up visits. CFP is particularly useful for detecting and monitoring retinal changes associated with diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, retinal vascular conditions, and other retinal disorders. Depending on the equipment and clinical requirement, pupil dilation may be recommended for clearer and wider retinal imaging.

Procedures Offered

The patient is seated comfortably in front of the fundus camera.
Eye drops may be used to dilate the pupil when clinically required.
The patient is asked to look at a target while the camera captures retinal images.
Images of the optic disc, macula, and other retinal areas are obtained.
The ophthalmologist reviews the images and discusses the findings with the patient.
Follow-up images may be compared with previous photographs to monitor changes.
