B-Scan Ultrasonography

B-Scan Ultrasonography is a painless, non-invasive eye scan that helps assess internal eye structures and detect retinal or vitreous problems when vision is reduced or the retina cannot be clearly examined.

Overview

B-Scan Ultrasonography provides detailed images of the eye’s internal structures using high-frequency sound waves. It is especially useful when cataract, corneal opacity, vitreous hemorrhage, or other conditions prevent a clear view of the retina. The test can help identify retinal detachment, vitreous abnormalities, tumors, and other structural problems that may contribute to reduced vision.

Procedures Offered

The patient is comfortably positioned for the examination.
A small amount of ultrasound gel is applied to the closed eyelid.
The ultrasound probe is gently placed over the eyelid.
Sound waves create images of the eye’s internal structures.
The ophthalmologist reviews the images and explains the findings.
