Overview
A-Scan / Biometry is an important diagnostic measurement performed before cataract surgery to accurately assess the eye’s anatomical dimensions. The test primarily measures the axial length of the eye and may also assess other parameters required for precise intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation.
Using advanced ultrasound or optical biometry technology, our eye-care professionals obtain accurate measurements to help determine the most suitable IOL power for each patient. Proper biometry is especially important for achieving predictable visual outcomes after cataract surgery.
The procedure is generally quick, safe, and non-invasive when optical biometry is used. In cases where optical measurement is difficult due to dense cataracts or other eye conditions, ultrasound A-Scan may be recommended. The results are carefully reviewed by the ophthalmologist and used as part of comprehensive cataract surgery planning.
